There's still some disagreement over who made the first move, though Deep insists it was Rima, something she continues to deny.

Both Gujarati, their lives had taken them across continents before eventually settling in the U.S. Rima, born in Surat and raised in Virginia, is now a pharmacist with Vanda Pharmaceuticals, while Deep, born in Kenya and raised in Tennessee, is a Physician Associate at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. As healthcare professionals shaped by both their Indian heritage and global upbringings, their shared identity subtly informed the way they approached their wedding. It was rooted in tradition, yet fluid, modern, and intentionally unscripted. Their relationship unfolded alongside demanding careers, finding its rhythm between long schedules and different cities.

Five years in, a trip to Portugal marked a turning point. Driving from Porto to the Douro Valley, they watched a thunderstorm threaten to interrupt the day. "He was stressed the entire drive, just checking the weather over and over," Rima recalls. But when they reached Quinta do Bomfim, the skies cleared. Surrounded by vineyards, with the light beginning to dip, Deep proposed.

The rest of the day followed without much structure. A sunset rabelo boat ride along the Pinhão River was followed by an intimate dinner at a tucked away Italian trattoria back in Porto. "It was simple, but it felt exactly like us," they say.

Their wedding celebrations, held in January at the Taj Lalit Bagh in Udaipur, carried that same sense of intention. With 280 guests traveling in, the couple chose the venue for its quieter lakeside setting, an understated alternative to the city's grander palace properties, where the focus remained on experience rather than excess.

The haldi embraced warm, sun washed tones, with layered yellows, soft florals, and tactile details that felt relaxed yet considered. By evening, the grah shanti and satak puja shifted into a deeper, more grounded palette, where traditional elements and richer hues introduced a sense of structure and calm. Across each setting, the decor never overpowered. It framed the space, adding depth and dimension while allowing the surroundings to breathe.

The haldi on the morning of January 9th set an easy, informal tone, while the grah shanti and satak puja brought in a more traditional rhythm. The wedding itself followed the next evening, structured but never rigid, unfolding with a sense of ease that carried through the entire weekend.
