Their celebrations began at Forte da Cruz, one of the Lisbon coast’s most iconic historic forts, where they hosted both their Haldi and Sangeet overlooking the Atlantic. The setting brought together the vibrancy and traditions of an Indian wedding with something unmistakably Portuguese: historic architecture framed by the sea and the natural beauty of the coastline.

That connection to Portugal became even more meaningful as the wedding coincided with Lisbon’s beloved June festivities, when the city’s historic neighbourhoods are transformed by colourful decorations and celebrations spilling into the streets. Still dressed in their traditional South Asian wedding attire, Seham and Aqeel wandered through the decorated streets of Alfama, where their portraits became something much more spontaneous. Locals stopped to congratulate them, welcomed them into the festivities, and celebrated alongside them. For a couple who had brought their loved ones across the world to experience Portugal, it became a beautiful and completely organic meeting of cultures, their own traditions becoming, for a moment, part of Lisbon’s.

The celebration ultimately returned to the idea that had guided so many of their choices: *natureza*. For their final evening, we wanted a venue that reflected both their love of nature and their commitment to a vegan lifestyle, while showcasing another side of Lisbon. Their reception was therefore held at Vandelli Botanical Garden, surrounded by centuries-old trees and lush botanical landscapes. It felt particularly fitting to conclude a vegan Indian wedding immersed in one of Lisbon’s most remarkable gardens.

From a historic Portuguese fort overlooking the Atlantic, to the festive streets of Alfama, and finally to a reception surrounded by nature, the wedding was designed as a journey through Portugal. Rather than simply bringing an Indian wedding to Lisbon, Seham and Aqeel allowed Lisbon, its history, its people, its landscapes and its *natureza*, to become part of their story.
