Ritika & Shubh
Montauk, New York
We met on Hinge last November. Started dating in January. Engaged in August. People say "when you know, you know," and I always thought that was a cop-out answer people gave when they couldn't explain themselves. Then it happened to me and now I get it.
Two days before, he told me we were going to his friend's white party for the weekend, somewhere by the beach, and to pack for that. I didn't buy it. A white party, out of nowhere, two days' notice…yea right. So he had his friend text him about it and forwarded me the screenshot. That was enough for me to drop it (kind off) Then he took me to a private jet. The plane itself was white, with "Yes to All" written on the side, and inside there were white petals everywhere. He proposed right there, before we took off.
He talked about the first time he met me and how he already knew then that he was going to marry me. I said yes before he finished asking. I didn't know where we were going until we landed. He picked Montauk, and it was perfect. He chose that location because it's quiet and away from the noise of the city. We stayed at Gurney's, oceanfront, and did nothing for two days except relax and enjoy our special moment. That first night we got pizza from a place called Dive Bar Pizza and grabbed snacks from a convenience store nearby, then ate on the bed in our robes and watched a movie. After the entire day we'd just had, that was somehow was when we felt the closest.
The ring is a 5-carat oval in rose gold with a hidden halo and a twisted pavé band. Our names are engraved on the inside, which no one else will ever see, and that's my favorite part of it. Even the box was handmade by @_kala_creations. He decided all of it himself. We had never talked about how or when. I told him I wanted to be surprised and he clearly took that as a challenge. Our advice to couples would be to not go into dates with your mind already made up, and don't shrink yourself to be easier to like. The right person will recognize you when you're actually being you.
